THE ADDAMS FAMILY PARTS 5-9 Wednesday Addams, Pugsley Addams, Uncle Fester, Grandmama Frump, The Beineke Family

Part 5: Wednesday Addams  In the cartoons, Wednesday had no name  Charles Addams gave her the name "Wednesday", based on the nursery rhyme line, "Wednesday's child is full of woe”  Sister of Pugsley Addams Pubert Addams  Daughter of Gomez Addams and Morticia Addams

Character and Personality Traits  Pale, dark-haired, grim-looking little girl who seldom smiles  Fascinated with death and the macabre  Favorite hobby is raising spiders  Shown to have several headless dolls as toys  She also paints pictures (including a picture of trees with human heads) and writes a poem dedicated to her favorite pet spider, Homer  Deceptively strong; she is able to bring her father down with a judo hold

Character and Personality Traits Continued BEFORE YOU COMPLAIN, YOU DON’T HAVE TO COPY THIS SLIDE  In the 1991 film, she shows sadistic tendencies and a dark personality, and is revealed to have a deep interest in the Bermuda Triangle and an admiration for an ancestor (Great Aunt Calpurnia Addams) who was burned as a witch in 1706. In the 1993 sequel she was even darker: buried a live cat, tried to kill her brother Pubert, destroyed Camp Chippewa and (presumably) scared to death her boyfriend Joel.  “Child of woe; is wan (pale) and delicate...sensitive and on the quiet side, she loves the picnics and outings to the underground caverns...a solemn child, prim in dress and, on the whole, pretty lost...secretive and imaginative, poetic, seems underprivileged and given to occasional tantrums...has six toes on one foot...”-Charles Addams  In the Broadway musical The Addams Family: A New Musical, she is 18 years old and has short hair rather than the long braids in her other appearances. Her darkness and sociopathic traits have been toned down, and she is in love with (and revealed to be engaged to) Lucas Beineke.

Wednesday Addams Portrayals  Through each version, her pale face (similar to her mother’s), dark hair, and glare remain fixed

Part 6: Pugsley Addams  Devious young genius  Oldest child of Morticia and Gomez Addams  Always wearing a striped T-shirt and shorts  Originally unnamed  Deviant child with a vicious nature, shown committing deplorable acts with his sister  In all incarnations, he is overweight (you shouldn’t insult people’s weight)

Character and Personality Traits  Displays outlandish engineering skills, including the invention of a disintegrator gun, an anti-gravity gun, and other devices  Pugsley and Wednesday rarely exhibit a sibling rivalry; share an interest in spiders, guillotines, and other “toys”  Unusual hobby of stealing signs, which he uses to adorn the walls and door of his bedroom  Has a pet octopus named Aristotle  In musical, Pugsley is the younger sibling

Pugsley Fun-Facts  He was originally going to be called "Pubert" (a derivation of the word puberty, possibly a reflection of his age) but it was rejected as it sounded too sexual, and the name Pugsley was chosen instead (the name Pubert was later used when Gomez and Morticia have a third child in the film Addams Family Values)  The Lurch Files' Addams Family Tree lists Pugsley's middle name as Pubert, probably as an homage to Charles Addams' original suggestion  The actor that played him in the original TV series died last year from a year from a heart attack from being overweight

Pugsley Addams Portrayals  His body build, hair color, and costume transcend versions

Part 7: Uncle Fester  Completely hairless, hunched, and barrel-shaped man with dark, sunken eyes and a deranged smile  Always wears a heavy, full-length fur coat  Character is recognizable in a number of cartoons, both by his appearance (bald, stooping, sunken eyes) and behavior  Usually seen on his own  Sometimes indicated to live in a small shack surrounded by wrought-iron fence

Character and Personality Traits  Strange ability to generate electricity (demonstrated by putting a light bulb in his mouth, which would illuminate)  Claims to possess 110 volts of power in one episode of the sitcom, while in another episode he demonstrated his "magnetic" quality by levitating a metal paperweight up to his hand.

Uncle Fester Portrayals  Bald head, costume and bulging eyes are main traits

Part 8: Grandmama Frump  Sometimes appears with the rest of the family, sometimes solitarily  Usually shown stirring potions and doing other witch-like things  According to Charles Addams, she is Gomez Addams's mother, and they share the same dark skin pigments (this changes throughout the adaptions)

Character and Personality Traits  Grandmother of the Addams children, Pugsley and Wednesday Addams  Known for her cynical—and sometimes morbid—sense of humor and her recreational interest in the occult  Often shown concocting various potions, spells and hexes, and even dabbles in fortune-telling.  One of her hobbies is wrestling alligators  Recognized for gray frizzy hair and her shawl.

Grandmama Frump Portrayals  Her teased hair, sunken face, and trademark nose- wart transcend

Part 9: The Beineke Family  The son, Lucas, is Wednesday’s new boyfriend in the musical  The Beineke family are a small family from rural Ohio  The mother talks in rhymes
