3. 3 Database 611 school districts in Ohio for 1998-99, a really good recent database. Database is bras_file_1.xls. bras_file_1.xls Comes with codebook.codebook Both are in Week 9 folder If we look at the database, we see the possibility for at least three types of analyses.

4. 4 Types of Analyses 1.Look at the determinants of school expenditures. 2.Look at the determinants of school productivity. 3.Look at capitalization of tax rates and school quality. 4.Others that YOU may think of.

5. 5 The Plan First Deliverable – Due Wednesday March 26 –PowerPoint Outline –8 slide outline of what you plan to do. Aim – 1 slide Brief Literature Review – 1 slide Methods – 3-4 slides Expected findings – 2-3 slides

6. 6 The Plan Second Deliverable – Due Wednesday, April 16 –Research Paper –10-15 pages* 12 point type 1 inch margins Double spaced –Organized as follows: Aims; Brief Literature Summary; Data; Methods; Findings; Interpretation; Conclusion. * If writing for honors, 15 – 25 pages.

7. 7 Research At least FIVE (5) outside sources.* –No Wikipedia! –Not the text! –Must be “refereed.” If you don’t know, ask me. * If writing for “honors” must be 10.

8. 8 Criteria for Grading Quality of analysis – Need not be sophisticated but MUST be right. Quality of writing – Bad spelling, bad grammar, bad organization  bad grade. Plagiarism => 0.
