By Eli Coakley Period 4 11-8-10 Infrasound, Ultrasound, and Other Wave Thingamahoos.

The Basics In order to understand what the presentation presents, first you must know the basics. Infrasound waves are to low to hear with the human ear. Ultrasounds, on the other hand, are too high to be heard. Either way, we can’t pick them up. Here are some examples, though, of animals that can.

Ultrasound Animal #1-5: Bats, Shrews, Dolphins, Insects, and Rats. All of these creatres, along with many more, use ultrasound for many things. Bats use it to find prey and find out where they are going, as do dolphins and shrews. Rats and insects use them to communicate, and to warn others of danger.

Infrasound animals #1-5: Tigers, Elephants, Okapi, Rhinos, Giraffes Like ultrasound, infrasound waves are used a lot for communication. Tigers use them to ward off enemies, while the rest listed use them to talk and warn others.

Wave interactions and behavior Constructive and destructive inference are used in the same thing: to increase the resolution in telescopes. As different types of light waves come towards the telescope, constructive inferences will make things clearer, and the opposite for destructive. Lights reflect off mirrors creating an exact duplicate, light diffracts when it goes through windows, and a spoon in a cup of water shows refracion.
