4 WE have sinned (6-43) Acknowledgment of sin – Rom. 3:9, 23; 1 John 1:8 The first step to forgiveness is acknowledgment 1 John 1:9, James 5:16

5 WE have sinned (6-43) Our Fathers in Egypt did not understand – Why? ( 7a ) They FAILED to let His greatness register!

6 WE have sinned (6-43) The Red Sea ( 7b-12 ) Saved for His name’s sake, demonstrating His power Exodus 14:11-13, 30

7 WE have sinned (6-43) They forgot His works ( 13- 15 ) Over and over they murmured Exodus 15:24, ch. 16 Leanness of soul – ingratitude Phil. 4:11-12

8 WE have sinned (6-43) Korah challenges Moses and Aaron ( 16-18 ) Numbers 16

9 WE have sinned (6-43) AT Horeb they make a golden calf ( 19-23 ) The Lord determines to destroy them, but Moses intercedes Exodus 32, 32:9-14

10 WE have sinned (6-43) Refusal to enter Canaan ( 24-27 ) They were overthrown in the wilderness, but some were spared Num. 14, Heb. 3:11, 18; Num. 14:11-25 – again Moses intercedes

11 WE have sinned (6-43) Harlotry with Moab ( 28-31 ) Balak, king of Moab hires Balaam to curse Israel. Numbers 25 Phinehas stops the plague Numbers 25:6-13

12 WE have sinned (6-43) Waters of Kadesh ( 32-33 ) Moses forbidden from entering the Promised Land Numbers 20

13 WE have sinned (6-43) Failure to finish driving out the Canaanites ( 34-39 ) In direct disobedience to the Law and Joshua Judges 1-3, 2:11-12, cf. Deut. 7:2, 16

14 WE have sinned (6-43) YHWH delivered them to Gentiles ( 40-43 ) But even then He delivered them. Judges 2:14, 16 But they kept sinning!

15 He regarded their affliction (44-48) He heard their cries ( 44 ) He regarded their afflictions Judges 2:11-23

16 He regarded their affliction (44-48) He remembered His covenant ( 45 ) One reason He did NOT utterly destroy them! ( Gen. 12:3, etc. )

17 He regarded their affliction (44-48) He caused them to be pitied by their captors ( 46 ) Again, He over and over demonstrated His power!

18 He regarded their affliction (44-48) Save us O Lord our God! ( 47-48 ) These verses also found in 1 Chron. 16:35-36, quoted by David as the Ark is brought to rest in Jerusalem.

19 He regarded their affliction (44-48) Why did God show mercy? He is just and merciful He does and wants to forgive He keeps His promises BUT He still administers punishment!

20 He regarded their affliction (44-48) WE live under a new and better covenant ( Heb. 8:6, 12 ) IF God forgave under the Old Law such injustice, He will forgive us too – if we simply turn to Him in repentance!

21 Will you turn to God? He is Good!
