4. The area of a square is 64 square inches. What is the length of the square?

5. If 3 out of 7 students did not calculate the number of neutrons in Oxygen correctly, what percent did calculate correctly?

Quiz 1-4-11 A triangle has sides 4, 7, and 10. Is this triangle a right triangle?

Is it a right triangle? To determine if it is a right triangle, I used the Pythagorean theorem. If the theorem is proven, then the triangle is a right triangle. I plugged the numbers into the theorem (10 had to be c because it is the longest side). I squared the legs and added them together. I compared that the square of the hypotenuse. A triangle has sides 4, 7, and 10. Is this triangle a right triangle? The triangle is not a right triangle. Triangle Sides: 4, 7, 10 Not a right triangle

Speed Test 1. Get out a dry erase marker. 2. You have 1 minute to complete as many problems as you can. 3.We will grade in 1 minute. 4. Graph your results. Keep the graph in your notebook. 5. We will do this every day.

Problem of the Week & Word Problem #3-5 1. You have 5 minutes to work on the problem of the week and word problem. 2. The problem of the week must follow the Read, Think, Solve, Justify format. 3. When you are finished, turn them in. 4. They are due Friday.

Accelerated Math 1. You have 10 minutes to work on your accelerated math. 2. Work out every problem. 3. When you complete the practice problems, bring them to me. If you have worked them all, I will allow you to submit your answers. 4. This is INDIVIDUAL…NO TALKING!

Class Work: Pythagorean Theorem You need your notes. Title the notes: Pythagorean Theorem I will check your work at the end of class.

Pythagorean Theorem Leg Hypotenuse Legs: Sides a and b Hypotenuse: Always side c

Pythagorean Theorem a b c Theorem: a 2 + b 2 = c 2

Pythagorean Theorem You are decorating the diagonal of a 12 inch by 7 inch window. How much material is needed to decorate the diagonal? HINT: Draw a picture

Pythagorean Theorem 7 12 c Theorem: a 2 + b 2 = c 2 7 2 + 12 2 = c 2 49 + 144 = c 2 193 = c 2 Guess & Check 13.9 13.9 = c

Pythagorean Theorem The two sides of an isosceles triangle are 8 in. The height of the triangle is 7 in. Calculate the base of the triangle. Calculate the perimeter of the triangle. HINT: Draw a picture 8 in 7 in 8 in

Pythagorean Theorem Theorem: a 2 + b 2 = c 2 7 2 + b 2 = 8 2 49 + b 2 = 64 -49 b 2 = 15 3.9 in b = 3.9 in base= 7.8 in 3.9 in 8 in 7 in 8 in P = 2(8)+7.8 in P = 23.8 in

Pythagorean Theorem If a 2 + b 2 = c 2, then the triangle is a right triangle. If a 2 + b 2 = c 2, then the sides are Pythagorean triples. a=6, b=9, c=10 6 2 + 9 2 = 10 2 36+ 81 = 100 117 = 100 Not a right triangle 6, 9, 10 are Not Pythagorean Triples

Pythagorean Presentation Create a Powerpoint slide show over the Pythagorean Theorem Describe what the theorem is. Include your picture of an example of a right triangle. You must have 5 slides over the Pythagorean Theorem Outline on paper today. You will create your slide show tomorrow. Work on your sing-a-long project after you have outlined your powerpoint.

Class Work Glencoe pg. 165: 8 – 10 pg. 169: 5 – 8
