Bell Ringer 2-8-11 1.Calculate the perimeter of the figure. 2.Calculate the area of the figure.

1.Calculate the perimeter of the figure.

2. Calculate the area of the figure.

Quiz 2-8-11 How many cubic inches can the figure hold? 4 in 5 in

What is the volume? To calculate the amount of cubic feet, I need to find the volume. The figure is a rectangular prism. To calculate the volume of a rectangular prism, I found the area of the base. The base is a circle, so I multiplied pi by the radius squared. I multiplied the area of the base by the height of the cylinder. How many cubic inches can the figure hold? The volume is 251.2 cubic inches. Cylinder Radius 4 in Height 5 in Cubic inches

Speed Test 1. Get out a dry erase marker. 2. You have 1 minute to complete as many problems as you can. 3.We will grade in 1 minute. 4. Graph your results. Keep the graph in your notebook. 5. We will do this every day.

Problem of the Week & Word Problem #4-4 1. You have 5 minutes to work on the problem of the week and word problem. 2. The problem of the week must follow the Read, Think, Solve, Justify format. 3. When you are finished, turn them in. 4. They are due Friday.

Review Question Jenna needs one foot square floor tiles for her bathroom. Her bathroom is 6 feet by 5 feet. The floor tiles come 11 tiles to a box. About how many boxes does she need? a. 2 b. 3 c. 4 d. 5 We will grade with the clicker in a few minutes.

Reach for the Stars Tuesday Jerod correctly answered 18 out of 20 equally weighted questions on his English test and 22 out of 25 equally weighted questions on his History test. Choose the method that can be used to accurately determine the test on which he scored higher. A. Compare the number of questions missed on each test B. Convert the ratios to percents and then compare them C. Add 5 to 20 to make each test have 25 questions, and then compare the number of correct answers on both tests. D. Multiply 20 by the difference of 22 and 18, multiply 25 by that same difference, and then compare the products

Class Work: Surface Area You need your notes. Title the notes: Surface area of prisms and pyramids I will check your work at the end of class.

Surface Area the sum of the areas of the exposed surfaces Perimeter is measured in Units Area is measured in Square units = units 2 Volume is measured in Cubic Units = units 3

Surface Area of Prisms Calculate the lateral surface area. Calculate the total surface area. Front & Back: 2(3) = 6 6(2) = 12 units 2 Top & bottom: 1(3) = 3 3(2) = 6 units 2 Right & Left: 2(1) = 2 2(2) = 4 units 2 The bases are the top and bottom. LateralS = 12+4 = 16 units 2 TotalS = 12+6+4 = 22 units 2

Surface Area of Prisms Calculate the surface area. Front & Back: 2(3) = 6 6(2) = 12 units 2 Top & Bottom: 2(3) = 6 6(2) = 12 units 2 Right & Left: 2(2) = 4 4(2) = 8 units 2 If it just asks for surface area, find the total surface area. TotalS = 12+12+8=32 units 2

Surface Area of Prisms Calculate the surface area of the prism with the following dimensions: length 4, width 3, and height 5. Front & Back: 4(5) = 20 units 2 20(2) = 40 units 2 Top: & bottom 4(3) = 12 units 2 12(2) = 24 units 2 Right & left: 3(5) = 15 units 2 15(2) = 30 units 2 TotalS=40+24+30 = 94 units 2

Surface Area of Prisms Front and Back: A=4(3)=12 ft 2 Top and Bottom: A=4(2)=8 ft 2 Left and Right sides: A=3(2)=6 ft 2 TotalS=2(12)+2(8)+2(6) TotalS=24+16+12=52 ft 2 4 ft 2 ft 3 ft Calculate the amount of paper needed to cover the box.

Surface Area of Prisms A label is being made to go around the chocolate container. How many square feet of paper is needed to make the label? 4 ft 2 ft 10 ft 3 ft 3.6 ft

Surface Area of Prisms 4 ft 2 ft 10 ft 3 ft 3.6 ft

Surface Area of Prisms Before the container is shipped, it will be completely wrapped in plastic. How many square feet of plastic is needed to wrap the container? 4 ft 2 ft 10 ft 3 ft 3.6 ft

Surface Area of Prisms 4 ft 2 ft 10 ft 3 ft 3.6 ft

Surface Area of Pyramids 6 ft 8 ft Calculate the lateral surface area of the figure.

Surface Area of Pyramids 6 ft 8 ft Calculate the total surface area of the figure.

Class Work Measuring Up Pg. 183: evens Calculate the lateral and total. The top and bottom are the bases for the rectangular prisms. Rectangular Prisms: Find area & List: Front and Back Left and Right Top and Bottom Triangular Prisms: Find area & List: Front Back Bottom 2 bases Pyramid: Find area & List: Triangle Faces 1 Base
