Civil War !!!  For this term’s homestudy, you will need to work in a group to create a presentation on the English Civil War.  Each group will have four people. A team leader will be chosen for each group who is responsible for making sure that the work is split equally and that the project is ready on time.  The presentation can be in the form of a poster, film or multimedia presentation (PowerPoint).

But first things first – what happened in the Civil War???

 1642  July – the first fighting broke out in Lancashire  August – Prince Rupert arrived in England to help Charles I  October – the battle of Edgehill – the first real battle of the  Civil war. Neither side really won, but the  Roundheads had lost a lot of their important  soldiers. It looked like victory for the King. I won! (Kind of)

 1643  Throughout this year, the King and the Cavaliers won victories at Chalgrove Field, Adwalton Moor and Bristol. The King was in control and would surely win the war. I WON!!

 1644  The key battle of this year was the Battle of Marston Moor. Supplies for both sides were poor: the Royalists had to drink water from the ditches. A new important man was in charge of the Roundheads, Oliver Cromwell and he had new ideas about how to fight a war. The King’s troops were destroyed and Parliament had its first big victory. Uh OH!

 1645  The Battle of Naseby – a key turning point in the Civil War. Main reasons for this: Cromwell and his New Model Army. Im a Loser !

 1646  The King’s cause was lost and a series of defeats followed Naseby. The King gave himself over to the Scots who in turn gave him to the Roundheads in exchange for a large sum of money. Charles remained under house arrest. Nobody Loves me!

 1649  Charles is put on trial and executed. I Think I’m Dead!
