5 Determining Central themes 1.As you read, look for ideas that get repeated. Mark (highlight) the repeats. 2.Ask and answer: How do the repeated ideas relate to the topic itself? (Why go to school?) 3.Write the central idea of the text in your own words, as a claim: Education makes you independent. School is the key for accomplishing something in life.
