Biblical Studies In 1st & 2nd Peter Sure Promise In Which To Hope 3:1-18 Ê The coming of the day of the Lord vv. 3-13  Peter’s “refutation” of the mockers also refutes the error of premillennialism  Premillennialists will use this passage to prove their assertion of the kingdom existing in the “new heavens & new earth” v. 13

Biblical Studies In 1st & 2nd Peter The Error Of Premillennialism (2 Pet. 3:6, 10) “Old” Earth“New” Earth? Earth was not “destroyed” (annihilated) after the flood. It still existed after the waters receded. Gen 8:13ff 9:1

Biblical Studies In 1st & 2nd Peter The Error Of Premillennialism (2 Pet. 3:6, 10) “Old” Earth Earth will be “destroyed” (annihilated) after this intense heat. It will offer no place for an earthly kingdom. “New” Earth?

Biblical Studies In 1st & 2nd Peter The Error Of Premillennialism (2 Pet. 3:6, 10) “Destruction #1” (Redemptive) “Destruction #2” (Final) #1 is not a “pattern” for #2. They describe different actions with different results.

Biblical Studies In 1st & 2nd Peter Sure Promise In Which To Hope 3:1-18 Ê The coming of the day of the Lord vv. 3-13  Peter’s exhortation vv. 11-13  There are different N.T. words for “NEW”  Neos Ù with respect to time or that which is recent Mt 9:17  Kainos Ù with respect to quality or a different nature Jn 13:34

Biblical Studies In 1st & 2nd Peter Sure Promise In Which To Hope 3:1-18 Ê The coming of the day of the Lord vv. 3-13  Peter’s exhortation vv. 11-13  The use of “ kainos ” again refutes the premillennial error re: the kingdom  If a literal kingdom on earth, it seems “ neos ” would have been used to emphasize the chronological start of the kingdom
