Tony Buzan’s Mind Mapping A Mind Map is a powerful graphic technique which provides a universal key to unlock the potential of the brain. It harnesses the full range of cortical skills – word, image, number, logic, rhythm, colour and spatial awareness – in a single, uniquely powerful manner. In so doing, it gives you the freedom to roam the infinite expanses of your brain.

Guidelines for making a Buzan-style mind map: Start in the center of a landscape sheet of blank paper. Use a picture for your central idea. Use colors throughout. Connect your main branches to the central image and connect your second-level branches to the first and so on. Make your branches curved rather than straight-lined, the central lines being thicker, organic and flowing, becoming thinner as they radiate from the center. Use one keyword per line. Use images throughout. Develop your own personal style of mind maps. Use emphasis and show associations in your mindmap. Keep the mind map clear by using radiant hierarchy, numerical order or outlines to embrace your branches.

Howard Gardener’s Multiple Intelligences Howard Gardner of Harvard University has identified eight distinct intelligences. Body smart Music Smart Picture Smart Logic Smart Word Smart People Smart Self Smart What “smarts” do you have?

Multiple Intelligences Complete the teacher self-assessment to find out what intelligence you are the strongest in. What impact does this have on the way you teach? Musical Intelligence Activity – using recycled materials, what kind of musical instrument could you make?

Art Costa’s Habits of Mind Habits of Mind is knowing how to behave intelligently when you DON'T know the answer. It means having a disposition toward behaving intelligently when confronted with problems, the answers to which are not immediately known: dichotomies, dilemmas, enigmas and uncertainties.

Art Costa’s Habits of Mind The 16 Habits of Mind identified by Costa and Kallick include: Persisting Thinking and communicating with clarity and precision Managing impulsivity Gathering data through all senses Listening with understanding and empathy Creating, imagining, innovating Thinking flexibly Responding with wonderment and awe Thinking about thinking (metacognition) Taking responsible risks Striving for accuracy Finding humor Questioning and posing problems Thinking interdependently Applying past knowledge to new situations Remaining open to continuous learning

Benjamin Bloom’s Taxonomy is a classification of Learning objectives within education proposed in 1956 by a team lead by Benjamin Bloom

Tony Ryan’s Thinker Keys The thinker's keys are a range of question starters developed by Tony Ryan, which he first introduced in the 1980s twenty different questions/activities designed to engage and motivate learners in a range of thinking tasks to broaden and deepen their thinking.

Edward de Bono’s Thinking Hats The de Bono Hats system (also known as "Six Hats" or "Six Thinking Hats") is a thinking tool for group discussion and individual thinking. It provides a means for groups to think together more effectively, and a means to plan thinking processes in a detailed and cohesive way.
