And their practical uses in the future ☺

Question: In what capacities are fuel cells being used today? What are the potential uses for the future?

Research According to Wikipedia, “The fuel cell market is growing, and Pike Research has estimated that the stationary fuel cell market will reach 50 GW by 2020.” meaning that fuel cells have a chance at being a primary energy source for society. “Fuel Cell Today categorizes the use of fuel cells into three broad areas: portable power generation, stationary power generation, and power for transportation. “ With the expanding of the fuel cell industry, more and more methods of energy production can be utilized and researched.

HYPOTHESYS/CLAIM Fuel cells have the potential to be used as a main source of power for society. Stationary specifically.

Test & Collect Data Fuel cells generate electricity by utilizing an electrochemical reaction in which oxygen and a hydrogen combine to form water. Unlike internal combustion engines, the fuel is not combusted, the energy is released electro catalytically. This allows fuel cells to be highly energy efficient, especially if the heat produced by the reaction is also harnessed for space heating, hot water or to drive refrigeration cycles. Money saved 

Analyze According to that data, stationary fuel cells are cheap, efficient, and easy to use. With low emissions, they are good for the environment, and the heat they generate could be harnessed as well. With the decline of price, fuel cells can be the power of the future!

Conclusion Stationary fuel cells could be the energy provider for the future. Not to mention that they (probably) won’t kill us all. (Most likely)
