2 Goal To provide a location for a youth center that will allow young people in the east side of Gainesville to access recreational and informational materials in a safe and convenient location.

4 Why are we doing this? Low economic status of Gainesville’s east side To assist the Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization Benefit Gainesville’s youth

5 East Side Gainesville 65 Primary and Secondary Education Schools 527 Local RTS stops 4112 people Ages 5-17

6 How did we do it?

7 People Located areas with a high number of youth ages 5-17 using a select by attribute function and two population classes Selected Schools in East Gainesville Selected RTS stops within 1.5 miles of a school by location Showed local roads Yout h Transpor tation

8 Good for the People 16 schools within 1.5 miles of site 245 convenient RTS stops within 1.5 miles Site surrounded by high density youth population: 65-307 individuals per area Site along major road Access to Citizen Park

9 Infrastructure Located parcels outside of the flood zones using location selection Selected by location parcels out of conservation areas Evaluated parcel value, vacancy, and zoning using Alachua County Property Appraiser Website Combined sewer and water into one layer Evaluated sewer and water line accessibility to parcels LandUtilities

10 Good for Constructing Owned by the city Water and Sewer lines Outside the flood zones Not located in Conservation Areas

11 Conclusion The location we chose is... Conveniently located to schools and RTS Accessible to many youth Close to existing recreational facilities In low-income area of town City owned Topographically feasible Utility ready
