8 Spokane School District Gateway PCs, Servers and Storage help the Spokane School District set a new standard for education. The Spokane School District, located in Spokane, Washington, consists of 35 elementary schools, six middle schools, five high schools, four special schools and 12 support buildings. –Challenge The Spokane School District created three objectives to improve the learning environments within the schools. These objectives included: develop consistency by using reliable and relevant technology, implement enough technology to satisfy daily requirements and combine these tools with curriculum — which would tie into the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requirements. –Solution After reviewing several technology providers, the district chose Gateway ® PCs, servers and storage products, including: 10,000 Gateway E -Series desktops give students and teachers complete access. 2,000 Gateway ® notebook and Tablet PCs allow students to learn virtually anywhere. Gateway ® Mobile Wireless Carts create computer labs in any classroom. Over 30 Gateway ® servers and storage products. –Return on investment Thanks to the integration of Gateway technology and innovative curriculum, the Spokane School District is seeing higher SAT and Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) scores. “Gateway is right on track. They are providing a good, solid product and good service — all at a great price.” Dennis Schweikhardt, Director of Network and Information Services, Spokane School District ©2005 Gateway, Inc. 9 Watertown School District “Gateway has been a true ally. They understood the challenges and helped provide a clear implementation plan, incorporating the educators, hardware and curriculum design.” Dr. Rick Melmer, Superintendent of Schools, Watertown School District Wireless Learning Means Higher Scores and Cost Savings The Watertown School District, consisting of 1,400 students and 85 teachers, wanted a cost-efficient way to improve learning without reducing class size. –Challenge While cost was a concern, enhancing the quality of education for students and faculty was a driving factor in determining a provider. –Solution Gateway added a complete wireless infrastructure with over 1,300 Gateway ® notebook PCs and built-in WiFi capabilities. The district simplified the implementation process with Gateway support services and end-user training. Gateway’s Accidental Damage Protection* was in place for those just-in-case moments of elementary school. –Return on investment The Gateway solution helped to improve student performance, increase teacher satisfaction and boost parent/teacher/student communication — all while delivering substantial facility cost savings. *Limited warranties and service agreements apply; visit gateway.com or call 1-800-846-2000 for a free copy.
