3 In November 2008, the 802.16 Working Group has approved the creation of a WG Ad Hoc Committee with the objective of promoting discussion on robustness and reliability Committee reflector and document upload area –http://dot16nrr-reflector.wirelessman.orghttp://dot16nrr-reflector.wirelessman.org –http://dot16nrr.wirelessman.orghttp://dot16nrr.wirelessman.org Professional and public safety applications –PSWN, company & airport communications, transportation, logistics, surveillance, backhauling, etc) –Land Mobile Radio evolution to Broadband NRR Ad Hoc Committee

4 Scope of the Committee In those usage models the wireless networks shall be: –Accessible In particular the coverage area shall be large enough for providing services at the required location –Secure High requirements for authentication, integrity and confidentiality services –Available Denoting a high level of resilience and robustness since the service shall be available whenever the users need it –Predictable Involving high-reliability of the transmissions

5 Progress made so far One meeting was held at the session #59 Works have been carried out in-between sessions –Regular conference calls –Technical discussions on the reflector (50 members) Technical contributions have been received on usage models and associated requirements The Committee is preparing a draft report (C80216nrr-08/004r1) –A call for contributions on this report has been issued the 11/02/09

7 Guidelines for IEEE-SA Meetings All IEEE-SA standards meetings shall be conducted in compliance with all applicable laws, including antitrust and competition laws. Don’t discuss the interpretation, validity, or essentiality of patents/patent claims. Don’t discuss specific license rates, terms, or conditions. –Relative costs, including licensing costs of essential patent claims, of different technical approaches may be discussed in standards development meetings. Technical considerations remain primary focus Don’t discuss or engage in the fixing of product prices, allocation of customers, or division of sales markets. Don’t discuss the status or substance of ongoing or threatened litigation.
