Oswestry Water Treatment Works Improvements Oswestry WTW, Shropshire Built 1892 – 1927 Treats water from Lake Vyrnwy, North Wales Produces up to 210 million litres per day Supplies Liverpool and parts of Cheshire When? Start on site in April 2015 Complete by December 2017 Why Improve? Raw water colour increasing Water quality risk posed by ageing assets Manganese reduction – will reduce risk of discoloured water in distribution network What are we doing? Major refurbishment of the works Addition of chlorine dioxide dosing and clarification process stage New chlorine contact tank and finished water storage Abandon slow sand filters New control and automation Installation of two hydro-turbines Hydro-power! Oswestry will be self- sufficient Excess electricity will be exported to the Grid In partnership with

HA outage Phases 2 and 3 First drain down and outage took place September - October 2013 –To inspect the aqueduct A further outage has been planned and is scheduled for October 2015 A third drain down will take place in October 2016 These outages will allow further refurbishment work to be carried out

6. Framework for provision of alternative supplies for Private Water Supplies Domestic supplies As set out in the Drinking Water Inspectorate (“DWI”) guidance titled ‘The provision of alternative supplies in emergency and non-emergency situations’, version 2, December 2011 –UU will supply bottled water on request from the local authority. –10 litres per person per day –Supplied within 24 hours –Requests should be made to the Water Quality and Public Health team –Costs may be recovered For longer term health issues identified by the local authority the WQPH team can be contacted and on request investigate the possibility of supplying mains water.

7. Private water supplies continued Non-domestic Where a private water supply is utilised for non-domestic use (e.g. farm supplies, livestock, agricultural or horticultural activity), we will not provide alternative supplies even in an emergency situation, unless there is a domestic element related to the premises –10l /person/day bottled water is available on request on a case by case basis –The option for a mains connection can be investigated on request Large Supplies (Greater than 10000 l/d) –It is not practicable to provide an alternate supply at short notice –Owners of such supplies should have prearranged plans in place for emergency and non-emergency situations –Mains connection can be investigated on request UU can share best practice for deploying and monitoring alternative supplies with local authorities
