2 Positive (pos-i-tive) adjective- very sure that something is right Lazaria is positive that she is worth dying for.

3 Involved (in-volved) adjective- included in a group, activity, or event Mr. Berry is involved in the sports division at his local Recreation department because he likes football.

4 Dramatic (dra-ma-tic) adjective- very large and exciting or sudden Dreon’s grades showed a dramatic improvement when he started participating and studying more.

5 Attitude (at-ti-tude) noun- an opinion or feeling about something Heaven has a positive attitude when it comes to graduating.

6 Persist (per-sist) verb- to continue doing something even if it is difficult The students in Ms. Alexander’s class knew that they had to persist in increasing their reading ability to improve their Lexile scores.

7 Purpose (pur-pose) noun- a reason for doing something The purpose of attending school is to prepare a person for a brighter future.

8 Harassed (ha-rassed)verb- picked on or made fun of Joan was harassed by her classmates because she was the new girl.

9 Initiate(i-ni-ti-ate) verb- to start something This picture will hopefully initiate the idea of pulling up pants to the waist and using a belt.

10 Dependent (de-pen-dent) adjective- needing help Children are dependent on their parents for love and care.

11 Bond (bond) noun- a feeling of connection between people or groups My sisters, brothers, and I share a common bond in that we are loved by our parents.

12 Surgeon (sur-geon)noun- a doctor who performs operations Keyshawn wants to become a surgeon, so he is going to graduate with good grades and enter a medical college to begin his dream.

13 Option (op-tion) noun- a choice Studying and working hard in school is the best option for a jump start in being successful in life.

14 Pity (pit-y) noun- to feel sorry for someone You should have pity for the weak and needy.

15 Approximately (ap-prox-i-mate-ly) adverb- figured out by guess or estimate but nearly correct Johnny said that he would be able to eat approximately 20 pancakes but in actuality he ate only 10.

16 Deported (de-port-ed) verb- sent back to the country of a person’s origin Jose’ was sent back to Mexico because he came to America illegally.
