SECONDARY ONE 6.1a Using Substitution to Solve a System

HOW TO CHANGE AN EQUATION SO IT HAS NO FRACTIONS

HOW TO CHANGE AN EQUATION SO IT HAS NO DECIMALS Multiply each number by 10, 100, or 1000, … so there are no numbers behind a decimal. 0.3y = 2 – 0.8x1.1x = 3y – 0.4

4 STEPS TO SOLVE A SYSTEM BY SUBSTITUTION 1. Solve one of the equations for one of its variables. 2. Substitute the expression from step 1 into the other equation and solve. 3. Substitute the value from step 2 into the equation form step 1 and solve. 4. Check the solution in each of the original equations.

SOLVE BY SUBSTITUTION y = x + 1 2x + y = -2

SOLVE BY SUBSTITUTION 2x + 2y = 3 x = 4y - 1

SOLVE BY SUBSTITUTION 2x+y=9 y=5x+2

SOLVE BY SUBSTITUTION
