One day, Oliver enters into his private shop room, and awaits the arrival of the Duchess. When she arrives, he has her wait.
The Duchess comes to Oliver to sell ten pearls, as she has lost substantial money to gambling.

Modernist literature 现代主义文学 is the literary expression of the tendencies of Modernism, especially High modernism. Modernistic art and literature normally revolved around the idea of individualism, mistrust of institutions (government, religion), and the disbelief of any absolute truths.
