3  Explored by Columbus in 1502 and by Balboa in 1513, Panama was the principal shipping point to and from South and Central America in colonial days. But the Columbus didn’t sign the paper work so the us side with the panama senses we wanted to build in on there land.

4  US wanted to take control of the panama canal  its a big import and export  critical to trading

5  We build the panama canal to speed up trading and that you don’t have to go around south America just go straight

6 . President: Theodore Roosevelt Theodore Roosevelt sided with the Panamanians that were trying to separate from Columbia. He wanted the canal on Panamanian land, and in return of receiving the land from Panama to build his canal, he promised support for the separation of Panama and Columbia

7  The United states signed a treaty called the Hay-Buenau- Varilla Treaty, that granted the united states the right to build the canal. Also it granted freedom to panama from columbia.

8  The Panamanians were grateful for the U.S because as the treaty was signed they gained freedom from Columbia.

10  In the Economic investment arena, the Panamanian government has been successful in the enforcement of intellectual property rights and has concluded a Bilateral Investment treaty Amendment with the United States and an agreement with the overseas private investment Corporation.  Although money laundering remains a problem, Panama passed significant reforms in 2000 intended to strengthen its cooperation against International Financial Crimes.

11  I think that we had good intensions with the panama government. We brought economic, political, security and social development to the country.  we helped provide them with health care and better working conditions.  I don’t see any consequences happening. America just helped and support panama.  I don’t see any problems any time soon between America and panama.

13  The United States cooperates with the Panamanian government in promoting economic, political, security, and social development through U.S. and international agencies.  In 2007, the U.S. and Panama partnered to launch a regional health worker training center. The center provides training to community healthcare workers in Panama and throughout Central America  About 25,000 American citizens reside in Panama, many retirees from the Panama Canal Commission and individuals who hold dual nationality.  There is also a rapidly growing enclave of American retirees in the Chiriquí Province in western Panama
