Topic: Force and Motion Essential Question: How do interacting forces affect the direction of an object's motion?

Topic: Force and Motion Essential Question: How do interacting forces affect the direction of an object's motion? The unit of measurement for force is the Newton (N) The formula for calculating force is: Force = mass x acceleration

Topic: Force and Motion Essential Question: How do interacting forces affect the direction of an object's motion? Net Force The total force acting on an object Net Force = 0 it is a balanced force, the object is staying still or is in constant motion If the net force is not zero, it is an unbalanced force and the object’s motion will change.

Topic: Force and Motion Essential Question: How do interacting forces affect the direction of an object's motion? Calculating Net force It is the difference between the 2 forces; the object will move in the direction of the stronger force Net Force = 50 N 100 N 150 N

Topic: Force and Motion Essential Question: How do interacting forces affect the direction of an object's motion? When two or more forces act on an object in the same direction, the net force is determined by calculating the sum of the forces. The object’s velocity will increase in the direction of the net force

Now take some time… Take 2 minutes to go over your notes and highlight or underline the main ideas that answer the essential question, you should not highlight everything: Essential Question: How do interacting forces affect the direction of an object's motion?

Time to use the left hand column You will now write your own questions using the verbs provided.
