4 Solar PV system for bus Different components that should be selected according to the system type, site location and applications. The major components for solar PV system are solar  charge controller-regulates the voltage and current coming from the PV panels going to battery and prevents battery overcharging and prolongs the battery life.  inverter- converts DC output of PV panels  battery bank- stores energy for supplying to electrical appliances.  auxiliary energy sources-is the bus alternator-battery combiner  and loads (appliances).

6 PV and Wifi receiver layout  In spreadsheet estimate we will need 13 modules(e.g. 1m x 1.7m for 300WH)  min bus area=28.75m^2, therefore 16 panels max needed on the bus. Therefore 13 modules occupy 22.1 m^2 of the bus.

8 Invertor Description Invertor units installed with a solar cells in between. The distance between the solar cells and the invertor is very less to enhance efficiency of the power generation.

9 Invertor  By using a DC 12 volt or 24 volt to AC 120 volt power invertor in a touring bus you can install several different electronics to enhance the touring experience. You can be setting up television displays and audio speakers. By using a bank of batteries you can offer power on the go to your clients. Some bus tours can be full day tours and now by using DC to AC power invertors AC outlets can be offered as well to charge laptops, camera batteries and cellphones as well. If you are setting up a 12 volt DC to 120 volt AC power inverter directly to 12 volt battery source of the bus you should setup the power inverter as close to the battery as possible to enhance high efficiency and then run extensions throughout the bus. If you plan on using the dc to ac power invertor for several hours daily you should add additional battery power. Make sure all additional batteries are connected in parallel to retain the same voltage for distributing the workload among inverter modules and lowering the duty cycle by half. This load sharing technology greatly extends the longevity of the inverter system

10 Battery sizing  From estimated calculation the batteries need for our system= 9  However we can add more batteries to this system to increase capacity.  During anatomy days this batteries can be charged by the alternator when the bus is on the move.  Lithium ion(LiFePO 4 ) batteries.

11 Alternator system as a solar supplement (backup generator)  The basic idea behind the use of an engine alternator is to increase the charge rate of the solar energy to battery bank system.  It can also happen that the alternator system can act as the sole provider of electrical power to the battery bank in times when the amount of electrical energy generated by the solar is sufficiently low to keep the batteries charged for optimum operation of the appliances within the bus.

12 What is an alternator?  It is an electrical generator which converts the mechanical energy produced by a combustion engine to electrical energy. It acts as the main electrical power provider to all factory installed accessories in a vehicle such as head and tail lamps, aircon, radio etc.

13 How can an alternator be useful?  By considering the fact an alternator is one of the major devices in an engine, coupling a share of its output to the battery bank is feasible.  However actions such as replacing the standard alternator with high charge alternators can be taken thus increasing the amount of electrical energy generated which in turn results to enough output power to be shared amongst the engine, bus accessories and the charging of the battery bank.

14 Alternatively, further improvements to the output power delivered can be made by installing more than one alternator to the engine pulley system.

18 Advertising screens(monitors)  Due to the larger width of LED advertising monitors(such as the one close to wernhil and town square), TV monitors can be used instead. They have much less power consumption= max 180 W  This monitors can be directly connected to a computer just like a projector, thus it is ideal for any public presentations  They also have flash drive input terminals. Thus any advertisement's can be loaded on a flash drive in video format.  A 70-75 inch (177.8 cm-190.5cm long) TV monitors are ideal for this application.  Other monitor sizes can be used all over the bus.
