WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN THERE IS A FIRE DRILL? BY Sarah Cox MEd. CCC-SLP
2
All schools have fire drills. They are important because kids practice getting out of the building safely. When we have a fire drill a loud ringing sound will come from the speaker, it might be really loud so I can put my hands over my ears or wear my headphones.
3
I need to get out of the building as fast as possible. Other kids will be trying to get out of the building too. We might bump into each other, but that is okay.
4
I will watch my teacher to see where she wants me to line up. All of the other classes will line up too. My teacher will make sure my class is all there and safe. That is a good thing because I want my friends to be safe.
5
Then I will wait. The other kids will wait too
6
The fire truck might come or it might not. It will be interesting to see what happens. Then I can tell my mom when I get home.
7
I know I can come in when my teacher tells me it is safe.
8
When I come back in I will listen to my teacher. She might say “get back to work” or she might tell me to do something else. Then I will follow my schedule and go on with my day.
9
The principal, my teachers, and my friends will all be happy if I stay safe during the fire drill.
