List of Invasive Alien Species of Union concern. 2.Pathways A long EU borderline; land, freshwater and brackish water area. Human influence is the main concern. Co-operation with Russian colleagues and customs. 3.Management Co-operation between different institutes and organisations are needed. Development of new management methods are needed. Containment is more reasonable than costly eraradication attempts. 4.Surveillance Alien species database for data collected by researchers as well as citizens are needed. Targeted surveys and early detections are often more than a challance. 5.Identification Species Information Portal on alien species. Customs officers need identification assistence. 6.Guidelines and training material Species Information Portal on alien species

4 © Natural Resources Institute Finland 43.2.2016 How to get citizen approval/acceptance for all the species in the list of EU concern ? How to execute the eradication and mangement measures, in cases when we already know that the species eradication is impossile? Nice in theory – Challange to implement Big differences between member states Northern and southern Europe are climatically far from each other. One species may be a threat in the northern and another in the southern Europe. Most of the risk assessments are done from a southern point of view, not considering the whole EU area. Listing wrong species may jeobardise the power of the whole IAS regulation
