11 Cultural Context Media Subject Lucian Freud Lucian Freud 1922–2011 Title: Two Plants Date: 1977–80 Oil paint on canvas He began the painting in 1977 and it took three years to complete. Freud recalls that it provided a means of accustoming himself to the light of a new studio. He describes it as 'lots of little portraits of leaves', adding 'I wanted it to have a really biological feeling of things growing and fading and leaves coming up and others dying'.portraits Two plants

13 Markus Schinwald – Dictio Pii We are the perfume of corridors Unfamiliarised with isolated activity Traitors of privacy. We are Utopian craftsmen Scope heeled diplomats, pretty beggars Not the product of poverty We don’t take from anyone. We are pillared by mild sadness and polymorphic history Eternally skeptical, But We Believe. We are immortal volunteers Living in the sensation of being everything And the certitude of being nothing. We are just an outline. We disband prompted paths of movement Extend our bodies, Become abysmal dancers. We are illiterate of perfection, following the curves of belief. Interested only in the gestures of bending. Scaffold-ed postures, obscene geometry. Frozen irony. We are deranged. http://vimeopro.com/yvonlambert/markusschinwald/video/39628973

14 What connects these images? What is the ‘Theme?’ What is the cultural context in which these images were created? What did the small Mr Hebden feel so intrigued by? Where does the power of this Art lie? What unites the artworks? What separates them? What should I do next? What could I compare these images too?
