5 MIGRANT EXPERIENCE Workers had to move to California in hopes of earning a job, after the droughts in the 1930s, where the farms they worked in were abandoned. The mild climate in California seemed to make it a “promised land” However, many migrants still found it hard to feed themselves as there was a wage reduction due to the amount of workers. The migrant workers faced discrimination from the Californian farmers because of their race and culture.

6 WORKING CONDITIONS The working conditions for the workers were also very poor, and they had to endure living on the bare minimum of food. Many strikes took place, as the wages paid and conditions on farms were unsatisfactory. The bosses were often known for taking advantage of their employees, as they had little rights and were fighting for money to survive.
