1 Egg Float By Astrid and Nate

2 Background Information If you put an egg in freshwater, it will sink because the density of the freshwater is lower than that of the egg. Add enough salt and the water’s density will be higher than that of the egg, causing the egg to float. If you put an egg in freshwater, it will sink because the density of the freshwater is lower than that of the egg. Add enough salt and the water’s density will be higher than that of the egg, causing the egg to float.

4 Hypothesis If you put an egg in freshwater it will sink then if you add salt into the water, the egg will float. If you put an egg in freshwater it will sink then if you add salt into the water, the egg will float.

5 Procedure Take out 5 eggs, label them 1-5 In each cup, add a pinch more salt than the last cup had Add water to each cup, and stir to let the salt dissolve Pour 3 cups of water into your large container Add one cup of salt to the large container Make a two-fold serial dilution of the stock solution Test an egg in each solution to see if it will float Repeat steps 5-6 with the four other eggs When you are done, wash your hands and record your data and conclusion in your science notebook Take out 5 eggs, label them 1-5 In each cup, add a pinch more salt than the last cup had Add water to each cup, and stir to let the salt dissolve Pour 3 cups of water into your large container Add one cup of salt to the large container Make a two-fold serial dilution of the stock solution Test an egg in each solution to see if it will float Repeat steps 5-6 with the four other eggs When you are done, wash your hands and record your data and conclusion in your science notebook
