Examine ideas from different perspectives Make inferences Elaborate on their thinking Use metaphors to think through problems

3 Types of Creative Thinking
Divergent Thinking Starts from a common point and moves outward Convergent Thinking Pulling together information from many places to draw a common conclusion Innovation A type of divergent thinking that creates something original and of value Critical Thinking A type of convergent thinking that determines the validity or value of something Inductive Thinking A type of reasoning that moves parts to the whole, examples to generalizations Deductive Thinking A type of reasoning that moves the whole into parts, takes generalizations and gets examples

4 Authentic Instruction
Authentic Instruction is characterized by: 1) learner autonomy and 2) active learning, and tend to be anchored by 3) holistic, 4) complex, and 5) challenging activities. Learner Autonomy Important for students to pursue things that are interesting and important to them. Active Learning Being mentally and perhaps physically involved in the learning process.

Holistic Activity The idea that we will learn better the basic thing we need to know if we have learn them through the context of meaningful activities Complex Activity Authentic instruction incorporates real-world and complex problems Challenging Activities The activities you do should be challenging so students feel a challenge to find out the answers to the problems

6 Facilitating Creative Thinking while Meeting Content Standards
Meet the standards, and the class objectives while requiring students to show that they know the information through different forms that help them think about the material critically
