An email is a message sent from one computer to another. You can include other things with your email, like web links and attachments such as photos or documents.

Like a postal address, this tells the email system where to send your messages. Your email address is made up of your username and the name of the email service. Beginner

Webmail works through your web browser. You can access this from any computer connected to the internet, including smart phones. Email programs work from your computer. Unless you have a laptop, you will only be able access email from where your computer is located. Beginner

Choose a ‘strong’ password. That is, one that includes numbers as well as upper and lower case letters. Don't write down your password or share it with others. Beginner

Click on the ‘Compose’ or ‘New’ button to open a new email. Enter their email address into the ‘To’ bar. Type a title for your email in the ‘Subject’ bar. Beginner

Click on a message to open and read it. Click on ‘Reply’ if you want to send a message back. Beginner

This lets you browse your computer and find the file you want to attach. Beginner

Open the message and click on the attachment to open or download it to your computer. Think carefully before opening attachments, especially from people you do not know and trust. Beginner

When you click to download an attachment, you can choose to put the file somewhere else. Don't leave private attachments on a public computer: move them onto a memory stick! Beginner

Your email program or webmail will try to detect spam and put it here. If you're not sure you can trust an email, do not open it. Put it in your spam folder and then delete it. Beginner
