LHC machine status ~ Daily Summary ~ Daily beam commissioning meeting Week 42 - October 14 th, 2015 CERN, Geneva, CH M. Lamont and S. Redaelli for the LHC commissioning teams

S. Redaelli, LHC meeting, 14-10-2015 2 Activities of the last 24h 08h00 → 15h00: Access for RQF.A78 earth fault intervention 15h00 → 03h00: Dedicated fill for ALFA data taking - Tested final functions for nominal cycle - Ended with complete set of loss maps in physics 03h00 → 07h00: Second fill for loss maps - De-squeezed and separate beam (being analysed) Now: Preparing accesses

S. Redaelli, LHC meeting, 14-10-2015 3 Tuesday morning Summary by David: As the TCSP collimators were about to be moved to new settings, the beams were dumped with an earth fault on the RQF.A78 circuit. This was subsequently traced to a water leak close to the power converter in UA83. Access made by TE/EPC, EN/EL and EN/CV to inspect and diagnose the problem. The main quads were then validated with a cycle to 2kA and also a Fast Abort (opening the switches). ADT: Inserted on the optical links between BPOS and mDSPU (M1's) of the Q7 PUs an optical splitter to branch off a signal for the data streams to the Observation Box. Checked that the revolution frequency is correctly received by the mDSPU. In case of problems (no trace on injection oscillation display with nominals), call W. Hofle. Connected Q7 PUs to the Observation Box (four channels). W. Hofle, Gerd Kotzian, T. Levens, M. Mician

S. Redaelli, LHC meeting, 14-10-2015 4 Condensation water dripping from the air handling unit UAUT-01829 in UA83 Slides from EN/CV - i S. Deleval

S. Redaelli, LHC meeting, 14-10-2015 5 Slides from EN/CV - ii 30th of March: Power Converter RB.A78 tripped with an earth fault. Water was dripping from the unit UAUT-01829. The drainage was unblocked and tested 6th of May: Power Converter RB.A78 tripped with an earth fault. Water was dripping from the unit UAUT-01829. The drainage was unblocked and tested. Ventilation was left with the chilled water valves shut. The power converter was protected. TS1: Pipework was taken apart and the drainage was cleaned from the unit to the ground. The drainage was tested. The chilled water valves were re-opened. TE/EPC has installed a permanent protection of the power converter. All summer: ok TS2: Check the unit UAUT-01829: ok 13th of October: Power Converter RQF.A78 tripped with an earth fault. Water was dripping from the unit UAUT-01829. The water was removed. The chilled water valves were closed. TS3: Preventive maintenance was already foreseen. Further investigation S. Deleval

S. Redaelli, LHC meeting, 14-10-2015 6 Accesses foreseen today Collimation in IP6: problem with cooling of a TCSP BI in IP4 - BSRT - BGV Survey, triplet inspection in P8 Inspection for preparation of ALFA work in P1 Several other smaller things… Note: Cryo calibration of head loads in S12
