Fichiers d’autor ité ملفات رسمية 规范文 档 Archivos de autorida des Authority file/list An authority file is a tool used to establish forms of names (for persons, places, meetings, and organizations), titles, and subjects used on bibliographic records and thus provides uniform access to materials. Schema s de clas Sifica tion خطط التصنيف 分类表 Esque mas de clasifi cación Classific Ation Scheme/ System Classification systems/schemes have been used by libraries to arrange materials by subject. Dewey Decimal System, AGRIS Subject Categories are two such examples.

Margherita Sini, FAO 9 / 19 http://www.fao.org/aims/ RSS formats RSS 0.91: (2000) original format, evolved in RSS 0.92 –, RSS 2.0: (2002), evolution of 0.92, simple with additional elements; modular –,,, RSS 1.0: W3C official format, RDF-compliant, extensible, namespace support Atom 1.0 (RDF)

Margherita Sini, FAO 10 / 19 http://www.fao.org/aims/ Example Use existing namespaces

Margherita Sini, FAO 11 / 19 http://www.fao.org/aims/ Proposals (1/2) Define a KOS metadata standard – Keep it simple so that everyone will follow Define namespaces (only if necessary); preferably reuse Harmonization of KOS “types” –its all in the name, for example, “Taxonomy for Plants” is Type “Taxonomy” –if not, make type definitions clear Make KOS available online with permanent URL –Make them available through web services –Make them available in several formats e.g. Simple Knowledge Organization System (SKOS)

Margherita Sini, FAO 12 / 19 http://www.fao.org/aims/ Proposals (2/2) Feed creator (e.g. http://www.fao.org/aims/tools/metamaker.jsp ) http://www.fao.org/aims/tools/metamaker.jsp Build RSS feeds Build RSS aggregators –filtering for domains: e.g. GFIS KOS-Blog (expose via RSS) Mobile Feeds

Margherita Sini, FAO 13 / 19 http://www.fao.org/aims/ Decentralized approach A new classification scheme... The AGROVOC thesaurus.... GEMET is now available...
