2. Step 1~ Setting Up The Problem 1 st ~ You put the dividend in the “house” and then you put the divisor outside of the “house”. Example~ 680 divided by 2= ? 2 680

3. Step 2~ Doing The Division 1 st ~ You see how many times 2 can go into 6 evenly, which is 3. Then you would subtract the answer of 2*3 which would be 6 and your answer would be 0. Then you bring down the 8 because 2 can’t go into 0. 3 2680 -6 ______ 08

4. Step 3~ Doing The Division #2 1 st ~ Now you see how many times 2 can go into 8 and that would be 4 because 2*4=8. Then you subtract the answer of 2*4 which would be 8 and your answer would be 0. 340 2 680 - 6 _____ 08 - 8 _____ 00

5. Step 4~ Getting Your Answer 1 st ~ Since your dividend doesn't have any numbers left you don’t have anything left to bring down you find out your answer and the answer is 340. 340 2 680 - 6 _____ 08 - 8 _____ 00

6. Remainders A remainder is when you have a divisor and a divided that are not the same meaning one is a even number and the other is a odd number. In other words the divisor can’t go into each other evenly. For example 4 can not go into 5 evenly without a remainder.
