Consider for a moment the power of music…

Music is everywhere; in the car, on the television, even pumping from the coffee shop on the corner.

To take it further, music is in the songs of the birds, in the crashing of the waves, and in the beating of the heart.

Music is inescapable.

Once we've acknowledged this fact, we must learn to appreciate the need for music understanding.

Music strengthens the mind, stimulating the brain cells and encouraging creative thought.

Research shows that children who understand music do better in life.

The music program at Tate Woods is designed to encourage children's natural enthusiasm for music.

As an educator, I encourage success by differentiating instruction to address various learning styles.

Both first and second grade students attend music twice weekly for one-half hour. Early childhood and Pre K students have music once weekly for one-half hour.

Students learn to recognize and demonstrate the basic musical elements of melody, rhythm, tempo, dynamics, and form.

Through singing, playing instruments, creating, moving, and guided listening, children discover and develop their natural music abilities.

First and Second grade students learn about musical instruments, and their characteristics.

Students develop an understanding of proper behavior during a stage performance, both as a performer and an audience member.

Both First and Second graders present one musical performance each year. Our performances are staged at Lisle Junior High School.

“Music is one of the things, like the ability to laugh, that has kept mankind going for thousands of years. Music keeps us sane." Charles Schultz November 26, 1922 - February 12, 2000
