Unit 30 task 3 Advert Design

Preparation Before I started designing my advert on Photoshop I decided to draw up a couple of sketches so I could get a feel for what it would come out like, this resulted in me choosing and drawing out separately the design I am going to use with annotations for future reference or if someone were to create my design.

Now to start off I chose an appropriate size for my advert which is 600x800pixels.

By using the rectangle tool I started to place shapes to create a base for my advert.

Next I imported the logo I made into the advert and moved it into the bottom left.

Then I merged the layers of the shapes together by highlighting the selected layers and clicking merge, this allowed me to re coloured them.

Next I placed a large image to represent the school in the middle of my advert to pull the observer in.

Next by selecting the “Horizontal type tool” I entered in text and changed the font colour, the sizing and positioning. I put in the Email address, name of the school and contact details of the school.

Feedback To see what people thought about the advert I had created I decided to get the feedback by creating a questionnaire for people to fill in. Questions: How eye catching is my logo? 6/10 Do you like the colours I have used? 4/10 Is the logo in the correct place? 7/10 Do you like the size and position of the picture? 5/10 Is the text position right? 3/10 Does it need more pictures? 8/10 Do you like the logo overall? 4/10 After receiving the feedback I know now that I have to change the position of the text and its colours, add a couple of more pictures and rearrange it and make the advert more satisfying and eye catching.

After receiving the feedback I have got an idea for what needs to be changed and have highlighted them. The position of the Text is bad. The colours are a bit bland and boring. The image looks stretched and too large. The logo needs a border on the sides.

First I decided to change the font, size and position of the text so I used the “horizontal type tool” and clicked on the text which I then highlighted and changed its colour and size which I then repositioned with the “move tool”.

I used the same technique to change the other text which needed to be altered.

After I began to edit the border of the image and I needed to add a border to my logo so by using the rectangular shape tool I am able to add a border to the edges of it.

Now I wanted to change the colour of the border so I selected the “magic wand” tool and highlighted the area I didn’t want to colour and right clicked it then clicked on “select inverse” so I could highlight the whole border and then I coloured it in.

Next I wanted to break the advert up a bit by adding another shape on the top right in a different colour, I did this by adding a rectangle and rotating it to get the perfect angle.

Next it was time to sort out the image problem so I down sized the original image and added 3 others to give examples of the school.

I had changed everything of which the feedback suggested such as editing the colour of the advert, improving on the text and adding images because of this it looks a lot more professional compared to the first version I made.

Finally I needed to save my image so I clicked file, save as and then hit the drop down menu to chose an appropriate file format which I chose as PNG and then clicked save.
