3 Faculty Senate www.utsa.edu/senate One elected faculty senator per department Represents UTSA faculty to the UTSA administration and to the UT System Faculty shall have a “major role in the governance of their respective institutions” (UT System Regents’ Rule 40101) – Reviews and formulates policy and enacts legislation on matters pertaining to faculty  Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOP)

6 Participate in Shared Governance Participate in shaping your work place. – We have the opportunity to help develop our rules.  Faculty Senate – Talk to the faculty senator in your department. – Participate in senate committees or as a senator yourself. But: Don’t get side-tracked by too much service. Research and teaching have to come first !
