3 Geography The British Isles has two islands. The largest island is called Great Britain. The smaller one is called Ireland.The southern part of Ireland is the Republic of Eire. The Northern part is a part of Great Britain. Ireland is separated from Britain by the Irish Sea.

4 About 15,000 years ago, Ireland was completely covered by thick glaciers.

5 Nowadays Ireland is known for its green fields
Nowadays Ireland is known for its green fields. In fact, its nickname is the Emerald Isle.

6 There are mountains on the south-east of the Northern Ireland
There are mountains on the south-east of the Northern Ireland. Slieve Donard is the highest point in Northern Ireland (850 metres) Belfast's most prominent peak is Cavehill.

7 Lough Neagh, is the largest freshwater lake both on the island of Ireland and in the British Isles.

The Shamrock The harp is widely used. It appears on Irish coins, uniforms, and official documents.
