Aim: How can a species’ niche influence competition? DO NOW 1.Explain the role that you occupy in your habitat. 2.What would happen if someone else, in your habitat, occupied the same role?

Niche The animal’s habitat (home) & its role in its habitat The role the species plays: the kind of food it eats, its feeding style, the place it lives and reproduces, how the organism affects other organisms

Warbler Birds

Competition 2 species cannot occupy the same niche & same feeding style because both species would compete for the same food in the same place, and 1 species would die off, unless it migrates (moves) to another location Competition is a contest between 2 or more organisms  could be for resources (food, water, shelter etc.)

Co-Existence Two species can coexist in the same habitat, if they do not occupy the same niches To co-exist means to exist together, in the same place, at the same time
