3 Jane Eyre Jane Eyre is a ten year old girl who has been abused all of her life by her cousin, John Reed, and her aunt Mrs. Reed. The Reason that she lives with her relatives is when she was very young he parents died of typhus fever. Now, to get her education, she is at Lowood, a school that is for orphans, the school is run down and very strict. Later in the novel, She receives a job at Thornfeild as a governess.

4 Mrs. Reed Mrs. Reed is Jane’s Aunt, she allows her to live at Gateshead with her and her family. However, she does not treat Jane with respect. She abuses her and only hopes to watch her suffer. She even told the headmaster (of the school that Jane would attend) that she is a lair.

5 John Reed Jane’s 14 cousin, Mrs. Reed’s son, that abuses Jane with any chance he can find. He is spoiled and can get away with anything he wants.

6 Eliza and Georgiana Reed They both are Jane’s cousins that live at Gateshead.

7 Bessie Bessie is a nurse at Gateshead, and treats Jane with respect, the only person that is nice to her at Gateshead.

8 Mrs. Abbott Mrs. Abbott is the house maid at Gateshead. She is mean to Jane like everyone else that lives there.

9 Mr. Lloyd Mr. Lloyd is a pharmacist, that helps Jane when she faints after the Red Room Situation. He is the one that suggests that she goes to school. Also, he clears Jane’s name after what Mr. Brocklehurst said about her.

10 Mr. Brocklehurst Mr. Brocklehurst is the owner of Lowood Institution, the school that Jane attends. He believe that the girls that attend should suffer the way that Jesus did, yet his family is the exact opposite. He believes in a hash punishing God.

11 Miss Temple Miss Temple is a teacher at Lowood Institution that is very kind to all of the students that attend the Institution.

12 Jane’s Parents Jane’s mother was a wealthy girl, while her father was poor. Her mother married him against her father’s wishes. Unfortunately, they both died of typhus fever at a young age.

13 Helen Burns Jane’s friend fist friend at Lowood. She believes that you should treat everyone with equal forgiveness, no matter how mean they have been, or are to you. Later Helen gets Consumption and later passes away.

14 Miss Fairfax Miss Fairfax is the housekeeper and manger of Thornfield. She is Mr. Rochester’s distant cousin. Also, she is a nice older lady that comforts Jane when she makes her trip from Lowood.

15 Adele Is a young French girl that Jane teaches at her first job away from Lowood. She, like Jane, is an orphan.

16 Edward Rochester Mr. Rochester is the owner of Thornfield, and the guardian of Adele.

18 Lowood Institution Lowood is the place that Jane spent all of her school years. There were many good, and bad memories made in this abused and run down facility.

19 Gateshead The first 10 years of Jane’s life was spent at this location. The owners of this place are the Reeds. Also in this house, Mr. Reed passed away in the red room

20 Thornfield Thornfeild is location where Jane starts her first job that is not at Lowood. In this environment she is a governess, she tutors a little girl named Adele. This house is tremendous, and beautiful.

22 Religion Throughout the chapters, Jane has encountered Mr. Brocklehurst, and Helen Burns; two major religious figures. Helen teaches Jane to love everyone, and treat everyone with respect, while Mr. Brocklehurst believes in a harsh punishing god. He believes that you should sacrifice for god.

23 Independence Jane shows independence throughout the novel by: - Traveling to Lowood alone - Telling off Aunt Reed - Becoming a Governess - Being strong when Helen dies

24 Social Class The Social Class: - The Reed Family/ Mr. Brocklehurst and his family - The Servant Class- everyone that gets paid for a job - Peasant Class- Jane The Reeds get a doctor, Jane gets a pharmacist. Mr. Brocklehurst and his family stay in touch with the latest fashions, while the students get one pair of bloomers to wear
