3 Scooter Board Procedures: 1.Lay on belly. 2.Legs off the ground. 3.Use arms to propel body across room.

4 Sit n Spin Procedures: 1.Sit on spinner. 2.Wrap legs around criss cross style. 3.Place hands on edges of red circle. 4.Rotate clockwise for ten spins. 5.Pause for 2 seconds. 6.Rotate counter clockwise for ten spins. 7.Adult supervision monitoring for safe speed to avoid falling off.

5 Standing Rocker Procedures: 1.Place feet on inside steps. (hold student’s hands if necessary) 2.Student shifts weight from side to side.

6 Trampoline Procedures: 1.Controlled bouncing in the center. 2.Adult monitoring within 5 foot distance for safety.

7 Swing Procedures – Rotary Motion: 1.See swing attachment poster for attaching hardware. Platform or sack attachment may be used. 2.Make sure pads are located around swing base. 3.Make sure black knob on back of swing mount is rotated out (unscrewed 3 turns). 4.Swing is rotated clockwise at 1 rotation per second for ten spins. 5.Pause for 2 seconds. 6.Swing is rotated counter clockwise at 1 rotation per second for ten spins. 3

9 More Calming Activities Activities to decrease activity level and alertness 1.Sucking 2.Vanilla and Lavender Scent – Caution: allergies 3.Butterscotch and vanilla flavors – Caution: allergies 4.Soft music – 60 beats per minute or less 5.Warm temperatures 6.Low lighting 7.Moderately intense levels of exercise for at least 20 minutes (caution: physical limitations?)

10 Quiet Tent Procedures 1.Student sits in bean bag chair. 2.Tent can be placed over top to provide quiet darker space.

11 Rocking Chair Procedures 1.Student sits in rocking chair. 2.Student rocks chair slowly. No more than 40 rocks per minute. (slow pace is calming)

12 Swing Procedures – Linear Motion: 1.See swing attachment poster for attaching hardware. Platform, bolster or sack attachment may be used. 2.Make sure pads are located around swing base. 3.Make sure black knob on back of swing mount is rotated in (screwed in 3 turns). 4.Swing calmly forward and backward. 3

13 Heavy Work Procedures (Deep Pressure) 1.Student carries 10% of body weight. 1.K to 3 – typically 3 to 4 books* 2.4 to 6 – typically 5 to 7 books* 3.7 to 8 – typically 8 to 10 books* *These are estimates only 2.Carry books to an alternate location. Can have student carry them back at a later time.

14 Deep Pressure Procedures 1.Have student lay on stomach on the ground with head turned to side. A mat can be used if desired. Do not do this activity if student has medical reasons for not laying on stomach. 2.Adult rolls ball from legs to upper back (not head), applying pressure downward through the ball. The pressure should be firm, but not painful to the student.

15 Swing Attachments & Positions: Platform Base/Bolster 1.Carabineer clip on each end of the motion bar. 2.Blue string loop in carabineer. 3.At bottom of yellow clip, carabineer with platform base/bolster attached. 4.Use yellow clip to adjust height of base. 1.Pull rope down to raise swing 2.Hold release clip (on back of yellow clip), and let rope get longer to lower swing. 5.Repeat all steps on the other side. 1 2 3 4

16 Swing Attachments and Positions: Sack Attachment 1.Single Carabineer clip on center eyelet. 2.Sack swing attached to carabineer. 1 2
