East vs West Coast Concept By Ryan Ndala

Social Context Socially West London are known as the richer part of London, They're stereotypical known as upper class and East London are known as working class which still today effects some people that live in East London.

Costume As for Costumes in my concept I am thinking of using the usual stereotypical clothing that people say about the East and the West, which I got from my research.. The costumes Idea I want to use for the West coast is smart looking by wearing smart clothing, as for the East the kind of costume I would want them to wear is Casual clothing to express the stereotypes on what people say what East Londoners wear. EastWest

Props Also in my concept I am planning on using props to represent the East and West Londoners, for example for the East Londoners I am planning on using Nike bag due to the fact the stereotypes as for West Londoners I am planning on using more Prestige bags like Briefcase etc. I got these information's about the stereotypes from my research I did.

Sound/Music In terms of using sounds, I am planning on using voice over of sounds in a super market, due to the fact that it represents the East Londoners in what they do for a living, also I feel that using voice over from a market adds more effect to the play. Also I going to use voice over of workers in a office to represent the West Londoners in what they do for a living however the sound in the office is normally quite and the sound of a super market is loud, so it will be Voice vs Silent which will be a contrast. As for music I am planning on using different varies of music, however what picked me out the most is a song called “So Appalled” By Kanye West ft Jay Z & Pusha T, the reason why it picked me out because I feel that the Lyric can relate to my play especially for the West Londoners “I’m so appalled I might just buy the mall just show you what I have in store.” This relates back to the West Londoners because in my play they’re are the rich ones in my concept.

Use of Space/Lighting As for my use of space I thought of different staging for my concept including frost staging, traverse staging & Theatre Around, but I decided to use Proscenium Arch as my space, due to the fact that I feel that the audience will be able to see everything and see every action so they will have a better understanding of the play, also they won’t have to move their heads or anything. Also I feel that using Proscenium Arch as my space for my concept relates back to Greek times because this staging is quite ancient so by using this staging it can relate back to Greek Times. Also I am going to be using Lighting for my concept, due to the fact that using Lighting adds more effect and tension to my concept which the audience will enjoy better. I will only be using 3 Lighting effects in my concept and that consist of: Spotlighting, Blackout and other different color lighting to represent on what happened, for example I will use red lighting to represent if something bad happened or a tensed moment or using light blue lighting to represent something good happened. 28/01/2016

Presentation Of Lysistrata/Chorus They’re are many ways of how I can present Lysistrata in my concept, for example picking what side the character is going to represent in terms of her being from the West side of London or being from the East side of London, however I decided that I want Lysistrata to represent the East Londoners. The reason being to this decision is that I feel that Lysistrata is going to be the voice of East London, which is something they really need in my concept, also another reason why I decided Lysistrata should represent East London because they are the side out of the two that are going to be withholding something in my concept so it will add extra tension. In terms for using Chorus in my concept I am going to have a Chorus representing both sides in my concept, the Chorus representing the east will be the Market stall people, and the people who own shops in the market and the Chorus for the West will be Managers and Property developers who work in the office.

Presentation Of Themes As for my themes, a quick brief on what my concept is about, the West Londoners are desperate to turn East London’s most prized possession “East London’s Shopping Centre” into flats, the East refuse for the market to go due to the fact it represented East London for many years, East London was beginning to lose their battle for it until... The MP stands up (Lysistrata) and withholds the fact that the East will stop paying the West council tax each month until they can keep the market and shopping center, lastly if the East don’t pay the West each month, the West will get less pay from their jobs and unable to pay for their expensive houses, which creates war. So the main themes in my concept is: Withholding, War, Stereotypes, Power and Pride.
