The highly portable PDA makes it possible for you to:  Work in a paperless environment  Easily send text documents to other PDAs or computers  Quickly create and edit documents  Accomplish many of the same tasks possible with a laptop What Are Two Ways to Enter Text? You can enter text on a PDA using its:  Stylus  On-screen, or soft, keyboard Entering Text Using the Memo Pad application to create simple documents is a good way to become familiar with a PDA. 5 5 stylus A penlike device used to select icons on a PDA screen or to write on a PDA screen. 5 Glencoe Digital Communication Tools Handheld Computers—PDAs 5.2 Explore Memo Pad Memo Pad Functions and Features Like a word processor, a PDA’s Memo Pad application is used to:  Take notes or messages  Easily organize text’s placement in a document  Cut, copy, and paste text  Store documents When You Open Memo Pad To choose where to place text, move the Memo Pad’s blinking insertion point to another line by:  Tapping the Enter key  Creating a return with the stylus by drawing a forward slash (/) in the PDA’s writing area 5 5 pg. 128-129 The layout of the on- screen, or soft, keyboard on the PDA is the same as the keyboard on a desktop computer.

With beaming you can:  Quickly and easily share information with other PDA users  Send applications from one PDA to another How Do You Beam? Make sure your PDA’s beaming function will work properly by:  Keeping both handhelds on a level plane  Positioning the devices so the infrared beams face each other  Placing the devices two to four feet apart  Purchasing additional printing software if you wish to beam documents to a printer 5 5 pg. 130-132 Tapping Memo at the top of the screen on your PDA is the same as using the menu bar in a word processor. beam To send data from one PDA to another via an infrared beam.

(Lesson 5.3) Answer: You can synchronize your PDA to your computer often to prevent losing your data should your PDA become lost or damaged. Then, if the data on your PDA were ever lost, you could copy the data from the computer back to the PDA through synchronization.
