The defining constant of life is change. Our society and communities change. Our knowledge and how we acquire it changes. Our relationship with one other and with our environment changes. Anticipating, understanding and managing change as a positive force are hallmarks of a 21st century institution. This is why ASU values entrepreneurship and innovation (E+I). ASU Office of Entrepreneurship + Innovation E+I Freshman Fellows Program

E+I Freshman Fellows: Introduction The E+I Freshman Fellows program is a collaboration between the Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation (E+I), ASU Enrollment Services, and select academic units. The program is based on existing pre-med/pre-law recruitment and engagement models utilized by universities nationwide. Designed as a recruitment yield and talent development strategy, the program offers high aptitude students a unique entrepreneurial fellowship experience in their freshman year. In the program, Fellows are provided the opportunity to create connections with peers and university leaders, engage in specialized instruction, and access to a $2M venture fund ($5k per student).

84% of the FY15 pilot are enrolled in Barrett, the Honors College E+I Freshman Fellows: 15/16 Pilot 129+ Non-resident admits with a CI Index of 129 or higher invited 21.7% 2014 capture rate for this population of first-time freshmen

E+I Freshman Fellows: 2015/2016 Pilot Student Profile 62 total applicants (15% of targeted student pop. submitted an application) 51 applicants enrolled in classes as of fall 2015 39 unique academic majors among four colleges 23 states represented 47 Freshman Fellows are also accepted into Barrett, the Honor’s College Scholarships represented include: President, National Merit Finalist, National Hispanic Finalist, National Achievement Finalist, and Academic Achievement

E+I Freshman Fellows: Beyond Recruitment The E+I experience includes resources and experiences to advance their ASU experience, including: Focused community development as an interdisciplinary student cohort Support of idea development and validation with a focus on innovation and entrepreneurship Access to a Venture Fund that provides $1,000 in initial seed funding and access to additional funds based on performance in ASU E+I competitions. Exclusive invitations to guest speakers, workshops, conferences, and boot camps Support for applications to internal and external competitions (e.g. Innovation Challenges, Edson, and CGI U)

E+I Freshman Fellows: Beyond Recruitment The College/School experience allows E+I Freshman Fellows the ability to connect to faculty, staff, and peers within their discipline. The following academic units have committed to additional programmatic and support services for the students in their college for the 2015/2016 Fellows cohort. E+I Freshman Fellows: Timelines 2015/2016 Cohort Weekly engagement opportunities offered by E+I in Fall 2015 Monthly engagement opportunities offered by E+I in Spring 2016 Ongoing engagement opportunities offered by partnering academic units during 2015/2016 school year; primary focus of college engagement is Spring 2016 2016/2017 Cohort September 2015- E+I develops communication strategy and identifies target populations in coordination with Enrollment Services and academic partners October- Freshman Fellows application launched for 2016/2017 cohort October- Appeal for targeted populations sent, with supporting online strategy December- Secondary appeal for target population; invitation for campus visit February- Potential campus visit(s) occur in coordination with Enrollment Services during Phoenix Startup Week March- priority deadline for Freshman Fellows applications April- Follow up with all pending applicants that have not yet paid enrollment deposit May- Final appeal for participation from targeted populations June- Final application deadline for targeted students July- Final notification regarding Freshman Fellow status August- Welcome event to congratulate new cohort

E+I Freshman Fellows: Future Growth Reaching our goal: Identify corporate and private sponsorship for increased programmatic offerings (e.g. Silicon Valley trip, seed funding, entrepreneurs in residence) Expand the relationship with Barrett, the Honors College and add additional college partners Develop a peer-to-peer mentorship program and engagement strategy for the FY 15 pilot cohort 500 E+I aims to welcome 500 E+I Freshman Fellows to the 2016/2017 cohort.
