You need White board, marker, eraser A sharpened pencil A piece of scrap paper Please complete the following: Turn in your work from yesterday Warm Up #44 Write the following expressions in words. Use your scrap paper: a)12 ÷ (n+ 4) b)(n + 4) ÷ 12 c)15 ÷ 3n d)3n ÷ 15

It’s as easy as  !!!

Try this Here’s what to do If four times a number, increased by 2, is the same as three times a number, increased by 9, find the number. Assign a variable to the unknown. Look for “operation” words in the problem. Look for words that indicate the equal sign Set up the equation and solve!!

Your turn If five times a number, increased by 4, is the same as twice the number, increased by 13, find the number Assign a variable to the unknown. Look for “operation” words in the problem. Look for words that indicate the equal sign Set up the equation and solve!! When a number increased by 4 is doubled, the result is the same as when the number is increased by 20. Find the number.

Your turn When a number increased by 1 is doubled, and then increased by 5, the result is the same as when the number is increased by 10. find the number. Assign a variable to the unknown. Look for “operation” words in the problem. Look for words that indicate the equal sign Set up the equation and solve!!

Time to ramp it up a bit… Shirley bought three equally priced notebooks and a $5 pen for $17. How much was each notebook?

Look for the unknown Shirley bought three equally priced notebooks and a $5 pen for $17. How much was each notebook? What is the unknown in this problem??? The price of the notebook!!! Assign the unknown a variable. Let’s use “n” for notebook. n

Look for clues… Shirley bought three equally priced notebooks and a $5 pen for $17. How much was each notebook? Is there anything we need to know about the notebooks??? There are three notebooks. They are equally priced. How do we show three equally priced notebooks algebraically? 3n3n

Look for more clues… Shirley bought three equally priced notebooks and a $5 pen for $17. How much was each notebook? Is there anything else we know??? She bought a pen for $5. She spent $17 How do we show this algebraically? 3n + 5 = 17

Now you take it from here!! 3n + 5 = 17 Shirley bought three equally priced notebooks and a $5 pen for $17. How much was each notebook?

Try this one Steps Sue and George each purchased a game. Together, the games cost $16. Sue’s game was $7. How much was George’s game? Look for the unknown and assign in a variable. Look for clues about the unknown Look for what is known Write the equation and solve!!

Try this one Steps Sam bought two packages of small fries and a Big Mac. He spent a total of $7. If the Big Mac cost $3, how much did each package of small fries cost? Look for the unknown and assign in a variable. Look for clues about the unknown Look for what is known Write the equation and solve!! (Sam is really gonna need to run a LOT to burn off all those calories, but that is for another problem…)

Try this one Steps Theresa could purchase four small gifts and a $3 doll for the same price as three of the small gifts and one $5 doll. What was the price of each of the small gifts. Look for the unknown and assign in a variable. Look for clues about the unknown Look for what is known Write the equation and solve!!
