2  High-energy mechanism.  Pain over thigh/hip region. Pt unable to stand.  Deformity, internal or external rotation of foot.  Swelling, bruising, open wounds, S&S of shock. Signs & Symptoms Femur Fracture

3  Assess CSM at foot. Assess (at skin level) for any open wounds.  Gently reduce any deformity (TIL).  Re-check CSM.  If no backboard: secure a long-leg fixation splint- leaving ankle exposed, extending past the pt’s waist to immobilize their hip. Treatment for Femur Fracture

4  Padded ankle or calf hitch  Padded groin strap above thigh at pelvis  Attach groin strap and ankle hitch to traction pole  Replace manual traction with mechanical traction  Use adjustable knots  Pad between legs and secure together  Continuously monitor the 5 P’s at ankle and foot Consider a Mechanical Traction Splint
