10 Centre for Genetic Resources, the Netherlands A. Workpackage : WP1 Genetic Resources B. Objectives: Building-up a collection of garlic Fingerprinting of the garlic collection, to identify the relationships between the various accessions and to develop a core collection C. Persons involved: Karin Burger, Ria Vrielink, Sjaak van Heusden, Chris Kik Bi-monthly e-mail report: how does it look like?

11 Centre for Genetic Resources, the Netherlands Bi-monthly e-mail report: how does it look like? D. Milestones & deliverables of the first year: Deliverables: DP 3: Garlic collection. DP 7: Chemical distinction (CSO), fertility and clonal identity between garlic accessions of the collection. Milestones: Determination of the clonal identity of the accessions present in the existing and collected garlic collections via AFLP fingerprinting

12 Centre for Genetic Resources, the Netherlands Bi-monthly e-mail report: how does it look like? E. Research What has been done? No research has been done on the garlic collection in the reporting period. What will be done? In the next months the garlic collection will be genetically fingerprinted for phylogenetic analysis, which will enable us to chose the most diverse germplasm for building up a core collection. What are the bottlenecks? None
