This PowerPoint presentation is not meant for showing to the audience…but may be used in that way if you don’t mind a busy overhead presentation. Thanks to Ed Bragwell for his work in producing this outline.

“All Things … New” 2 Corinthians 5.17

Introduction A. When we become Christians we enter new relationships. 1. To Christ 2. To God. (Gal. 3:26,27). 3. To Christians. 4. To World. (Cf. Rom. 12:1,2) 5. To sin. (Rom. 6.1-2; 1 Cor. 6:9-11).

Introduction B. When we become Christians we learn new ways of living in Christ.

I. A New Way of Thinking A.New spiritual mind, not the old carnal mind. Rom 8:6-7 NKJV (6) For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

I. A New Way of Thinking 1. Carnal mind at root of Corinth’s problems. (1 Cor. 3:1-4). 2. Carnal mind toward preaching/teaching at root of many problems

I. A New Way of Thinking B. New heavenly mind, not the old earthly mind. (Col. 3:2). 1. A pilgrim on earth. 2. Know that present joy and suffering are temporary. (Rom. 8:18 “For I consider that the sufferings…”; Heb. 11:25) 3. Not overly concerned about things of this life (Mt. 6:24-34).

I. A New Way of Thinking C. New Pure mind, not old filthy mind. (Phil. 4:8). 1. Not a mind fed on filthy movies, TV, literature. 2. Birds may fly in, but don’t let them make a nest

I. A New Way of Thinking D. New fair mind, not old biased mind. (James 3:17 NKJV) But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. 1. Fleshly favoritism. (cf. Gal. 3:28 “There is neither Jew nor Greek…”) 2. Economic favoritism. 3. Friendship favoritism.

II. A New Way of Talking A.Truthful words. (Eph. 4:25) (Eph 4:25 NKJV) Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another.

II. A New Way of Talking B. Pure words. (Col. 3:8). “But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.” C. Seasoned words. (Col. 4:6). “Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one.”

II. A New Way of Talking D. Measured words. (James 1:26 NKJV) If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. (Prov 10:19 NKJV) In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise.

II. A New Way of Talking E. Properly directed words. 1. Pleasant words may compliment or flatter. 2. Sharp words be as “switch blade” or as “surgeon’s scalpel” (Titus 1:13 NKJV) This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith. (2 Cor 11:19 NKJV) For you put up with fools gladly, since you yourselves are wise!

III. A New Way of Doing (1 John 3:18) My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. A. New places to go: Worship, classes, wholesome activities. B. New things to do: Pray, study, teach. C. New people to see. 1. Sinners who need saving. 2. Brethren who need edification. D. New Clothes to wear. 1. Literally - Modest apparel. (1 Tim. 2:9) 2. Spiritually (1 Pet. 3:3,4; 5:5). E. New companionships to form (1 Cor. 15:33)

Conclusion A. “All things have become new. B. “New Creation - in Christ”
