9 9 of 22 National Projects Programme National projects will seek to develop common standards and generic solutions… National projects will create ‘products’ ready for take-up by local government… National projects will contribute to delivery of e- Government targets by 2005… National projects will build on the work of LGOL pathfinders and other pilots…

10 10 of 22 National Smartcard Project Creation of framework proposal Agreed to develop 11 work packages Lead organisation for each work package identified First draft proposal submitted to ODPM in June 2002, final draft submitted October 2002 Overall funding approx £4.1m approved March 2003 Project commenced April 2003 – to complete by March 2004

11 11 of 22 Objective The National Smartcard Project is intended to bring together the knowledge and expertise of a number of local authorities and Central Government departments, including Pathfinders authorities, to provide a framework and foundation that will drive ongoing development within the Smartcard market
