1 A Survey Through The Heidelberg Catechism LORD’S DAY #47

2 I. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. II. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image. III. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain. IV. Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy. V. Honor thy father and thy mother. VI. Thou shalt not murder. VII. Thou shalt not commit adultery. VIII. Thou shalt not steal. IX. Thou shalt not bear false witness. X. Thou shalt not covet.

3 Prayer The Lord’s Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.

7 … hallowed be thy name.  hallowed – “holy”  regarding God: absolutely & utterly unique  “wholly other” (?) righteousness, knowledge and holiness  not to be imitated by “other gods”  not to be depicted by graven images  to be held in holy honor  to respond by glorifying his name

8 … hallowed be thy name.  His name equals himself  It is the essence of his self-revelation  “I am who I am”  His revealed attributes  His Moral Law  His Ceremonial Law  Christ  His Civil Law  Kingdom

10 Heidelberg Catechism #122 Q. What is the first petition? A. Hallowed be thy name. That is: grant us, first, rightly to know Thee, and to sanctify, glorify and praise Thee in all Thy works, in which Thy power, wisdom, goodness, justice, mercy, and truth shine forth; further also, that we may so order and direct our whole life, thoughts, words, and actions, that Thy Name may not be blasphemed but honored and praised on our account.

11 … hallowed be thy name.  His name equals himself  that his name is hallowed and to be hallowed  by rightly knowing God through His Word.  by appropriately worshipping God in corporate and individual life.  by growing under the influence of this relationship throughout your life.  by submitting his will through all things w/joy.  asking for the grace/strength to desire and seek his glory through all things.  by denying all things false and every impure desire and motive.
