13 1.Participants form pairs. 2.Analyze the graphs on the AVID Weekly handout “Gen Y: The Millenials.” 3.Locate the list of questions at the bottom right of the handout. 4.Partner A reads Question 1. 5.Pairs work together to answer the question but do not record answers. 6.Repeat the process with Partner B reading Question 2 until all five of the questions have been asked and answered. Application of Pausing to Connect

14 Discuss the following questions in your table group: 1.What was your experience using the Pausing to Connect strategy? 2.In what ways did the strategy help you to comprehend what you were reading? 3.How do you see this strategy benefitting students in the classroom? Debrief of Pausing to Connect

15 1.Form pairs 2.Locate the AVID Weekly article,“Cells reprogrammed in living mice”. 3.Partners take turns reading aloud the first 2 paragraphs. 4.After each paragraph, select a question from the list of questions found on the “Pausing and Connecting: Questions and Methods” pg. 3 (Quick Reference 6.1) 5.Work together to answer the questions but do not record your answers. 6.Keep track of questions that come to mind but are not on the list. 16 Discuss the following questions in your table group: What was your experience using this variation of the Pausing to Connect strategy? How else do you see this strategy being used? How might it be modified for different content areas? Debrief of Pausing to Connect with an Article
