2  Helps child to form securely attachment style which in turn helps with social development.  This can predict infant attachment style.  Mothers with increased sensitivity to an infants needs and signals.  There is no measure for fathers.

3  Describe a child you know or your own child…  Keep in mind there is no wrong answer. This is just an exercise.

4  Parents who are mind minded treat their children as individuals with minds rather than creatures with physical needs.  These parents talk to their children about their minds and what we do with our different minds.

5  Mind-minded parents  Are more likely to act as if baby’s vocalisations are an attempt to communicate.  They pay attention to their baby’s gaze.  Engage in appropriate talk with their baby commenting on what the baby may be feeling or thinking.  Assume that their children can understand and gain from conversations about mental states.

6  Aids in socio-emotional development  There are studies suggesting that individual differences in mind-mindedness may have links between security of attachment, Theory of Mind, and socio-cognitive and socio- emotional development.  This means children who interact with parents who are aware of their minds are more likely to be aware of others’ minds!

7  There have been no studies to date that have tested this theory.  Awareness of the tenants of this parenting style may increase the probability of mind- minded parenting.  If your mother was mind-minded, you will be more likely to be mind-minded yourself.

8  Engaging in corrective methods when infants engage in undesirable behavior.  Fussing  Crying  Throwing objects  Methods for guiding behavior change as infants reach their second year.
