See Something… Say Something! Hear Something… Say Something!

Sometimes it is difficult to make the right choice

People are like weather… most of the time, they are safe. Like weather, people’s behaviors can change from sunny and safe, to stormy and unsafe. Just as we avoid dangerous weather, we can take safety measures to protect ourselves and our peers from inappropriate and unsafe behaviors. Some people engage in bad weather behaviors…

When we are having trouble making the right choice, we can use our built in computer to help us. Each of us already has an effective tool for staying healthy and safe… our brain! Our brain is an amazing built in computer We can program our brain with information to protect our health and personal safety

What could happen if you make the wrong choices?

Let’s put our heads together to help Annie make the right choice… Annie’s friend says “Wow, look at these matches I’ve found. Let’s try lighting them.”

What do you think Annie should do?

CHOICE 1: Annie: “No, that’s not a good idea. They are dangerous!” Annie and her friend choose not to play with the matches and tell an adult.

CHOICE 2: Annie: “Yeah, cool! Let’s try to light them!” Annie and her friend decide to light the matches. Annie badly burns her fingers and has to go to hospital.

CHOICE 3: Annie and her friend light the matches and plan on watching them burn until they go out.

Making the RIGHT Choice We are going to talk about some situations that may occur in school. Some may be situations where it is easy to make the right choice Some may be situations where it is challenging to make the right choice

Look at this picture. What does it mean? What happens when you are walking into the building and another person is waiting to come in?

Look at this picture. What does it mean?

Look at this picture. What is going on with all the doors being locked these days?

What do you do if you hear someone make a verbal threat against someone else? What do you do if you see someone hurting themselves purposefully? What do you do if you see something that could be used as a weapon to hurt someone?

Remember the difference between: Tattling and Reporting Tattling – To get someone in trouble Reporting – To get someone out of trouble

Listen to your instincts Instincts are our own personal sirens If someone's behavior sets off our own personal siren, we need to tell an adult Sometimes we keep a secret to surprise people; though ALL secretes are eventually told We need to tell an adult about any secret that makes us feel upset, scared, worried, or sad
